Wanja was born in a small town in Kenya but grew up in the USA, in a creative family of writers, artists and actors. Her mother is a stage actress/director, her husband (Italian Fabrizio Laurenti) is a film director, and 2 of her 3 children are professional actors. Fun fact: Wanja’s ancestor, Coleman Sellers, invented the first movie camera (1861). Wanja is a filmmaker/screenwriter as well as an actor. Besides acting in film, stage, and tv, she has written and directed award winning shorts, 2 features, 3 documentaries and a web series. Wanja is a passionate athlete. She has competed in many races, including 5 international marathons. She wrote an award-winning documentary about Kenyan marathon runners. Wanja is interested in circus arts and has studied horseback acrobatics and, briefly, elephant riding. Wanja speaks fluent Italian, passable French, and currently studies Swahili. Wanja moved to London 2 years ago. She sings and performs with the London International Gospel Choir.
